1. Open config.php in the main directory and set the $installed_path variable (see the section below for additional configuration settings)
2. It is not necessary to upload the files entitled sample (e.g. sample.swf) and the folders docs and miscellaneous
3. Upload the remaining files and folders
4. ****Most newer PHP configuration do not require any permission changes to php File Manager. If you experience any issues, you may need to chmod the tmp folder to 777 and the file admin.account (in the folder /db) to 666. If you experience permission issues (e.g. errors when downloading and/or uploading, try changing the Chmod of the entire php File Manager directory to 777 and consult with your host to ascertain why this procedure is needed)
5. Start up your internet browser and input the URL to php File Manager. E.G. http://www.mydomain.com/File_Manager_S-U/ or http://www.mydomain.com/File_Manager/
6. The default admin username and password is admin and FileManager respectively

• $installed_path is the root directory of php File Manager. This is where you will start browsing from. You cannot browse above this directory. Use forward slashes instead of backslashes and remember a trailing slash! **Note: You must change this variable to your web server path or php File Manager will not function :) If you're uncertain and need to confirm your path, upload and browse to show_path.php. **Note: If you have php 4.x, and you're experiencing session issues such as limited users seeing the root directory or missing content, try COMMENTING out the 3 if statements toward the top of index.php in the section entitled PHP5 compatibility / session control. If you're not familiar with this, it's simple placing two forward slashes at the beginning of each line before the word if (//if). ****More importantly, however, is to upgrade to PHP5x or ask your host if this is possible. PHP4 was officially discontinued Jan 31, 2007 so support is dwindling. It's time to move on! :)
• $language chooses which language is used by php File Manager. To create a new language, you will have to make a copy of one of the files in the directory "lang" and translate all the strings. Give the file a name with a .php extension, open "config.php" again and set $language to the first part of the file name (e.g. $language = "mylanguage";)
• $IconArray is an array containing the icon filename (first) and then the corresponding filetypes or extensions belonging to it. **Note: each filetype or extension is separated by a space. Feel free to add or remove anything in this array
• $EditableFiles contains all the filetypes or extensions which are editable by php File Manager's built-in text editor
• $ViewableFiles contains all the filetypes or extensions which are viewable by php File Manager' built-in image viewer
• $ModifiedFormat is the format of the last modification date of files. It is in date() format. See http://www.php.net/date for more information
• $hide_file_extension contains the extensions which should be hidden. Add or remove as desired and keep the syntax/formatting intact
• $hide_file_string contain "strings" or parts of filenames to be hidden (e.g. "private" would hide the files "private.txt" or "MyPrivateFile.php")
• $hide_directory_string is identical to $hide_file_string except that it hides directories instead of files
• $MIMEtypes should suffice. If you run into a media type that needs to be added, check a site such as this.
